This week we loaded up the family bus and drove to the very crafty and scenic town of Berea, Kentucky. Each year trap shooting squads, and individual shooters, converge on this city to compete in different trap shooting competitions.
The Deerslayer loves this sport and I like it because young and old alike can compete together in different events. It requires focus, concentration, and some mean accuracy skills.
Here is the squad on the line during competition.
But, during a break, the Dads got into the act and starting shooting at a practice trap house. The squad discovered what they were doing and started razzing them a bit when they missed.
And they weren't too quiet about the razzing!
Our very own Secret Agent Man is shown here getting SERIOUS about his shot people.
All in all a great day of competition where the squad competed well, as did our individual shooters. Kudos to The Deerslayer for competing WELL and shooting above his average today. We are very proud of him.
I just found your blog. I love it. I adore small towns. Great post.

Looks like fun. I've never been much of a shotgun man. I'm more the rifleman. Congrats to Deerslayer for shooting above his average.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a fun time! I've always wanted to go to Berea.
ReplyDeleteawesome! love that the dads got involved (and razzed!)
ReplyDeleteI bet that was fun to watch.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on Deerslayer's GREAT placement at state!
ReplyDeleteDon't you just love Berea?
Great teaching experience for that young man.
ReplyDeleteWay to go, Deerslayer!!
ReplyDeleteWell, at least it's not a fishing derby!?. Don't get me going on fishing and bowling. hahahaha
ReplyDeleteSuper photos and I'm so happy for your boy. I know he probably takes his shooting very seriously (like his pop.)
ReplyDeleteLove myself a good trap shoot....maybe even this weekend:) Have a great 4th!
ReplyDeleteWay to go, Deerslayer! I love trap and sporting clays and it must have been passed down.
ReplyDeleteBRAGGING DADDY WARNING!
Our youngest was a championship 3 position rifle shooter in JROTC for 4 years. SHE led the county team to the Army Nationals twice and All Service Nationals once.
Nice to see the shooting! Both of our sons shot 3 position small-bore competition and were on the #1 in the nation men's team for 3 years. Our youngest then got a full scholarship at University of Tennesee on their small bore rifle team and was invited to the Olympic Training Center in Colorado many times. He shot in an international match in Los Angeles once. So, we're a gun family.
ReplyDelete((hugs)), Teresa :-)
Sounds like a lot of fun....My hubby would love it...Glad you all are enjoying this time together..
ReplyDeleteHave a good weekend.
You probably know about it but we live down the road from Vandalia, Ohio where they have the National or International Trap Shoot every year.
ReplyDeleteI love your blog, and I thought I was already a follower, because we have some mutual online friends. In any event, I am following you now. Enjoy the 4th!
ReplyDeleteInteresting activity, never seen one; then again GUNS are totally illegal and forbidden. Even to own one is very difficult to get a license and may get into a lot of trouble.
ReplyDeleteNice father son time! Enjoy your weekend.
ReplyDeleteawesome...way to go...
ReplyDeleteNice! I don't know too many men who wouldn't be sucked into the competition aspect. lol...
ReplyDeleteCongrats to The Deerslayer, and of course to S.A.M. who persevered despite the razzing ;-) Looks like a fun sport.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun day! Love sports that are fun for all ages!
ReplyDeletep.s. Love Dirt Road Anthem too!

ReplyDeleteTeresa - It sounds like you have many shooters in your family! With a lot of talent!
ReplyDeleteA fun trip, it must have been! Deerslayer, kudos for shooting above average!!
ReplyDeleteGreat pics, loved them.
Have a wonderful Sunday :)
I think that is so cool. Good for the boys - both of them. I kinda wish my boys had the opportunity to do something like this - I theorize that these sort of skills give them a feeling a being able to take care of themselves or family that suburban young men miss out on.
ReplyDeleteSecret agent man needs to keep up with the Deerslayer !!
